What To Do When Pregnant for the First Time

Pregnant for the First Time

Pregnancy is a big deal, and it can be hard to know what you should do.  I was really nervous about being pregnant for the first time because I didn’t know what to expect. My doctor told me that there are some things that I should do now so that my pregnancy would go smoothly, but she wasn’t very specific on how to find out more information or where to start.

Take Prenatal Vitamins

Start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as you find out you are pregnant. It’s impossible to know when you’ll get pregnant, but it’s really important that your body is getting the nutrients it needs as soon as possible.

There are two main types of prenatal vitamins:  Folic Acid and Multivitamin. Those with Folic Acid will help prevent birth defects in your baby’s brain and spinal cord. Multivitamins are needed to ensure your body has everything it needs for a healthy baby.

Make An Appointment With Your Doctor

You need to take a series of tests and attend regular appointments for your doctor to monitor the progress of your pregnancy. Also, for certain government programs, you will need a positive pregnancy test given by a doctor in order to sign up.

Sign-Up For WIC

When you reach out to your doctor,  they will help you sign-up for WIC. What is WIC you ask? It’s a federal program that provides food, nutrition education, and even medical care for pregnant women across the United States. You can also receive formula if you’re breastfeeding but not producing enough milk. If you need assistance with the WIC office in your state please CLICK HERE.

Start Your Baby Registry

When you’re pregnant for the first time, the most important thing is to make sure that your baby has everything they need. Start making a list of things you will need and start your registry!

You can use Amazon or even make an account on Babylist. There are also gift cards from Target, Walmart, and Buy Buy Baby.

Start Your Birth Plan

When you’re pregnant for the first time, it might seem a little scary. You may feel like you don’t know what to expect but that’s okay! Start by making a birth plan with your doctor and your partner so that everyone is on the same page when it comes to how things will go down when it is time to deliver.

Download Baby Apps to Take Pictures

There are a ton of great apps that you can download to help keep track of your pregnancy from day one until long after the baby arrives. I have found a couple that works best for me! If you want to know the best baby bump app, CLICK HERE!

Let me know in the comments what else helped you when you first found out.
